ABOUT US
The Charm City Poker League is a legal venue for enthusiasts of the classic game of chance and skill, poker! Over the last few years, the country has been taken by storm over this game that many of us have been enjoying for generations. State law prohibits organized gambling at personal risk, so this can really get in the way of real competition. Sure, a penny-ante game isn't going to gain federal attention, but it's also a poor way to meet fun and interesting people such as yourself - people who love poker!
We have organized a league in which people of all walks of life can go to their favorite local hangouts, meet friends and strangers, enjoy some food or drink, and sit down to a nice game of cards. Because the venues pay a hosting fee to be a part of the league, which covers prizes, organization, and so forth, there is no cost to the player. Ever heard the phrase "No purchase neccesary to win"? That makes gambling legal, because you aren't gambling at all!
We hold two poker "seasons" each year. The season carries on for 20 weeks, in which time we hope players take the time not just to learn how each other play, but who the people are behind the cards accross the table. Each season ends with a big championship event that traditionally includes food, drinks, entertainment, and more. Spectators are encouraged!
OUR PRESIDENT
The president of the Charm City Poker League is Ken Darian. He is a fourth generation poker player, as well as the second in the Darian line to head up the league. His grandfather, Silas Darian, was the head of the league from 1974 through 1987 before retiring to upstate New York. Ken has been the league president for four years now, and a player for 5 years before that. While he misses not being eligible for tournament play, he enjoys being such an important part of something so impotant to those important to him.
Besides poker, Mr. Darian has many different businesses around the Baltimore area. His knowledge of zoning regulations through the management of multiple clubs and bars helped found the groundwork for the Charm City Poker League as it is. He was able to find many hosting venues early though his contacts from pinball, jukebox, and amusement rentals.Often he will cater the final championship out of pocket himself, providing pizza, hot dogs, and other snacks from his same not-for-profit "Darian's Helpers" that helps many local school children raise money for supplies, team uniforms, and more.
OUR PLAYERS
The players in or league are some of the sharpest players around. They know when to hold 'em, when to fold 'em, and when to call it a night. Not a lot of players could pull a really good fast one on one of our player, but if anyone could, it would be another one of our players. Some peple say "You have to get up pretty early to fool me." Well you have to go to bed pretty late to hear one of our players say "I give up!"
Don't take our word for it that our players are the brightest, most attractive, personable, funny, charming, and downright a pleasure to be with group you'll ever find. Why not? Why that's easy! Our players are you!
